Love the idea of exploring beautiful sunny Cyprus, working as you travel?

It’s a popular spot for digital nomads, thanks to its gorgeous weather, delicious food and stunning beaches. The country is also known for its affordable cost of living and welcoming expat community.

The most important thing you’ll need to start working in Cyprus is a visa. Like many countries, Cyprus has a dedicated digital nomad visa.

In this guide, we’ll give you the lowdown on the eligibility requirements and costs of the Cyprus digital nomad visa, along with info on how to apply.

So, let’s get started.

Cyprus digital nomad visa: requirements and eligibility

Cyprus is one of many countries which has a digital nomad visa.

The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa gives foreign nationals of non-EU and non-EEA countries (which includes the UK) the right to live and work in the country for the purposes of carrying out remote work.

The visa lasts for one year, with the option to renew.¹ You can include dependents in your application, which is ideal if you’re planning to move to Cyprus with your family.

You can work as a freelancer, or work remotely in Cyprus on behalf of a company. Crucially, you can’t work for a company or clients registered in Cyprus - only those registered outside the country.

To meet the Cyprus digital nomad visa requirements, you’ll need to:1

  • Have a minimum monthly income of €3,500 EUR (after tax)
  • Be able to do your job or work remotely.

How much does it cost?

The Cyprus digital nomad visa costs €70 EUR in application fees for British citizens.1

In addition to the upfront application charge, there may be additional costs to pay - such as to take out a health insurance policy, for example.

What documents do you need?

You’ll need the following documents to apply for a digital nomad visa for Cyprus:2

  • A passport valid for at least 3 months (plus a copy)
  • Proof of work/employment - such as an employment contract from your employer, or work/project contracts if you’re self-employed
  • Proof that you meet the minimum income requirement, such as proof of salary and bank statements from the last 6 months
  • Certificate of Criminal Record from the UK
  • Medical test results, such as blood analysis and a chest x-ray (to prove you don’t suffer from HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B or C, or tuberculosis)
  • Proof of sufficient health insurance valid in Cyprus
  • Proof of address, such as a rental agreement or the title deed if you’ve bought a property in Cyprus
  • A signed affirmation that any dependents coming with you will not work while in Cyprus (if relevant).

How to apply for the digital nomad visa in Cyprus

Unlike in some other countries, for the Cyprus digital nomad visa you can only apply after you’ve arrived in the country.

As a UK national, you can visit as a tourist for up to 90 days, so you don’t need to apply for a tourist visa.

Once you arrive, follow these steps to apply for your digital nomad visa:1

  1. Get your documents together and check that you meet the eligibility requirements - particularly the minimum income requirement.
  2. Download, print and complete the application form - you’ll find it here.
  3. Submit your form and supporting documents at the Civil Registry and Migration Department in Nicosia - you might need to make an appointment in advance
  4. Pay the application fee
  5. If your application is successful, you’ll receive a temporary residence permit.

One potential setback you might face is that Cyprus only processes a maximum of 500 digital nomad visas a year.1 So if this quota has already been met, you may have to go home again without getting your visa.

If you are successful though, you can simply start settling into life as a digital nomad in Cyprus.

You might even want to open a local bank account, which could be especially useful if you’re not able to keep your UK account open while living and working abroad.
