When your Wise Business transfers money to or from an account in another country, there's a cost to process the international payment — even when both currencies are the same.
Which countries does this apply to?
You'll now be charged a cross-border fee when you make or receive international transfers in the same currency if your Wise Business account is registered in:
Australia
Canada
Germany
Italy
The Netherlands
It's still free to make or receive transfers in your local currency in your country.
When will I pay a cross-border fee?
You'll only be charged a cross-border fee when your transfer is both:
in the same currency — for example USD to USD
between a Wise balance and a bank account outside of your country
This applies to both sending and receiving money.
You won't pay the fee when topping up your Wise balance from an external bank account in your name — as long as we can successfully match your name between the accounts.
How much is the cross-border fee
You’ll pay a fixed fee depending on where your Wise Business account is registered.
Country | Fee |
---|---|
Australia | 6 AUD |
Canada | 0.3% of the amount, maximum 11 CAD |
Germany | 2 EUR |
Italy | 8 EUR |
The Netherlands | 4 EUR |
You’ll always clearly see when the fee applies.
When cross-border fees don’t apply
1. Sending Wise-to-Wise
Sending a same-currency transfer between Wise accounts is free.

If you and your recipient are both on Wise, you won’t pay a cross-border fee.
2. Keeping a qualifying balance
You won’t pay a cross-border fee if your total Wise balance (expressed in your local currency) at the time you created a new transfer, is equal to or greater than the equivalent of:
Country | Fee |
---|---|
Australia | 20,000 AUD |
Canada | 25,000 CAD |
Germany | 10,000 EUR |
Italy | 20,000 EUR |
The Netherlands | 18,000 EUR |
This excludes any money held in Interest or Stocks.
3. Sending via Swift or external bank accounts
We don’t charge cross-border fees for Swift transfers, or between two accounts outside of Wise — this is because they may have their own intermediary bank charges.
4. Using a Wise Card
We don’t charge cross-border fees on Wise Card transactions.
