Do Filipinos need a visa to Taiwan?

Normally, Filipinos do require a visa for travelling to Taiwan. However, thanks to a visa-waiver program that has recently been extended to 31 July 2026¹, Filipinos are able to enter Taiwan visa-free for the time being.

Is Taiwan visa free for Filipinos?

Filipinos looking to have a short holiday of under 14 days in Taiwan will be able to enter the country without a visa. However, if you’re planning on taking a long holiday to cover multiple cities like Taipei, Kaohsiung, Tainan and more in one trip, Filipinos will still have to apply for a regular visitor visa for tourism purposes. For working and studying purposes, a visa will still be required.

Types of Taiwan visas available for Philippine citizens

There are a wide range of visas available for Filipinos, but the most common ones applicable would probably be the visas for tourism purpose, for employment purpose and perhaps even the Digital Nomad Visitor Visa.

Taiwan visa requirements for Filipinos

If you’re planning to stay past 14 days in Taiwan, you will need a visa, so here’s everything you need to know about what sort of documents the visa application process requires and how to go about it.

Taiwan tourist visa requirements

For a Visitor Visa for Tourism Purpose², you’ll need to fill out the application form online before printing it out and signing on the second page. Along with it, you’ll need to submit two colored passport-size photos (35mm x 45mm) taken against a white background and within the last six months. Composite photos, selfies and altered photos will not be accepted.

You’ll also need to provide documentation on your round-trip flight itinerary, proof of accommodation, and be in possession of a passport that has at least six months of validity from the date of entry. A photocopy of the passport’s biometric page with the applicant’s photo is also required. Additionally, you will require a travel plan that details your plans during the stay in Taiwan, as well as a certificate of employment, and evidence of funds in the form of a bank statement that was issued within one month of the date of application for the visa.

For Filipinos, the application also requires a PSA Birth Certificate, and a PSA Marriage Certificate if the applicant is female and married. All the documents submitted must be original, with one set of photocopies. The original documents will be returned after review.

If you have a friend or family member in Taiwan whom you’re visiting, an invitation letter might help to support your application as well. Other documents might be requested during processing, and interviews with the applicant might be scheduled if required.

Taiwan work visa requirements

If you are offered a job in Taiwan and will be staying for more than six months, a Resident Visa for work will be needed. You’ll need to prepare the application form along with two colored passport-size photos (35mm x 45mm) that are taken against a white background and in the last six months. You will also need to provide a valid passport with a validity of at least six months from the date of entry and a photocopy of the biometric page.

Additionally, you must have a Work Permit that is issued by the competent authorities of the central government of the R.O.C (Taiwan). Depending on the type of work visa, you might also need to provide an affidavit that proves the applicant knows of the relevant work rules and regulations of the Employment Service Act³.

The application must also be accompanied with a document of no criminal records that is issued within one year of the date of the visa application. A health certificate might also be required, depending on the type of work visa applied for.

Filipinos will also need to provide a PSA Birth Certificate and married, female applicants must also provide a PSA Marriage Certificate. All documents submitted must be original with one set of photocopies, and the original documents will be returned after review.

How to apply for a Taiwan visa as a Filipino

Filipinos are not able to apply for visas online or through the mail. For a Taiwan visa, applicants must print out the visa application form and submit the documents to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines either personally, through a representative or through a travel agency. Applicants must also be in the Philippines during the application of their visa. You can also expect to make payment for the visa application fees while submitting the documents. TECO suggests that applications should be filed no earlier than three months before the intended date of departure.

Where to apply for a Taiwan visa in the Philippines?

The only place to apply for a Taiwan visa in the Philippines is the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, located at 41F, Tower 1, RCBC Plaza, 6819 Ayala Avenue, Makati City 1200, Metro Manila, Philippines. The office is open Monday to Friday, with filing time from 8:45 am to 11:45 am, and releasing time from 1:45 pm to 4:45 pm. There are no online applications and no mail applications.

How much is a visa to Taiwan from the Philippines?

The fees depend on whether it is a single-entry visa or a multiple-entry visa. For a single-entry visitor visa, the application fee starts from 2,600 PHP⁴. A multiple-entry visitor visa will cost 5,200 PHP, and a single-entry resident visa will cost 3,500 PHP.

There is also a rush handling fee if expedited processing is needed, with a single-entry visitor visa costing 3,900 PHP in total. A multiple-entry visitor visa with rush handling will cost 7,800 PHP, and a rushed single-entry resident visa will cost 5,250 PHP.

The fee will need to be paid in Philippine pesos, and TECO will only accept cash. In the event that the application is denied after review, the visa fees are non-refundable.
